Some of the Best Games so Far in 2017
We may be only three months into 2017, but already there are some amazing games both released and on their way. Some of these are remastered and reimagined retro games that are finding a whole new audience.
There are also a few little gems that have taken all the best ideas and gameplay from the past and created new exciting titles. They are not only highly playable but also pay homage to the games we fell in love with.
Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age
This old PS2 title has been given a great reimagining from the guys at Square Inix. The original version didn’t quite get the praise it deserved, so they are hoping that this time around it will be a fun JRPG that will grip the imagination of young and old gamers alike.
One thing to expect is of course updated graphics and more attention to detail. Square Inix have tried this before, so you should expect good things from this new release.
Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy
This year sees the highly entertaining Crash Bandicoot back in action. The N-Sane trilogy has been a long time coming, but it will hopefully be worth the wait.
It is a collection of the original three games, Crash, Crash 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash 3 Warped. This means you will get to see all the old characters and play all the levels you remember from the 1990’s.
There are also new additions to the game including new bonus levels and updated modern environments.
Prey
Prey is not so much a remastered version of the original 2006 title, more of a reboot. This shooting space game takes place on Talos One. You are imprisoned on the space station where all manner of horrible things is going on.
The original game was well received and a sequel has been a long time coming. Although this isn’t the sequel people are eager for, it could expedite it if this version proves popular.
Yooka-Laylee
This game is a new one, but it draws from the wonderful genre of platform games from the 1990’s. The graphics look beautiful and the gameplay is fun and addictive.
These games are a welcome break from the shooting and dark horror games. It will also appeal to younger gamers, especially as it is going to be released on the Wii U.
It seems like Playtonic Games may have hit a sweet spot with many demographics in this game.
That was just some of the many new releases in 2017. There are other titles that will be coming this year that reinvent retro classics. There are also a number of sequels to classic games that will be worth a look.
