We know it can be difficult to drag yourself away from your games consoles, but seriously gamers, sometimes you have to leave the house.
But don’t worry, there are lots of retro gaming events you can attend so what better excuse to retire your game controls for an evening and battle it out with your friends and/or strangers at a retro gaming event near you. Here’s what’s happening in the UK over the next couple of months.
Play Expo, Manchester 8 and 9th October
With more than 1000 screens, Play Expo is the biggest retro games event in the north of the UK. This year will see Bandai Namco Entertainment unveiling their next-generation of thrilling video arcade games and showcasing Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Tekken 7. Fans of retro games should head for the exclusive retro zone where you will find consoles, computers and VR setups to play for free. You can also enter tournaments for a small fee.
Secret Weapon Retro Games Event, West Ham, London, 22nd October
Last month’s Super Retro Gamer event was so much fun that nobody wanted to leave and we aim to replicate that with Octobers Retro Games event which will be held at Secret Weapon on West Ham Lane in east London. Doors open at 1pm so be sure to join us early and get your free drinks with your ticket. We have a wide range of consoles for you to enjoy including the PS2, Dreamcast and SNES, and although we haven’t decided which games to showcase yet, you can be guaranteed it will be an amazing day. We aim to please so any suggestions are welcome.
Yorkshire Games Festival, 9-13th November
Retro gamers in the UK have a new 5-day event to look forward to this year. The Yorkshire Games Festival will be held in the National Media Museum and gives gamers an insight into the industry like never before. Featuring workshops, giant demo-screens and keynote talks with producers, writers and designers, this is a great opportunity to indulge in the video games culture with industry professionals. AdventureX, London, 19-20th November
AdventureX in London is a retro games event with a difference – it centres around the art of interactive story-telling. The free event will be staged for the 6th year running and celebrates the creativity and geek culture of scripts in retro adventure games. If you have a passion for interactive story-telling, this is your chance to speak with developers and enjoy a host of retro games featuring exciting narratives. The event will be held at the Goldsmiths University of London in New Cross.
